YouTube Downloader for MP4 Video and MP3 Audio
Paste a YouTube link, pick a video quality up to 1080p or an MP3 bitrate, and save the file right in your browser.
How to Use the Box at the Top of This Page
Three short steps take you from a YouTube link to a saved file.
Paste the video link
Copy the link from YouTube using Share and Copy link, or from the address bar, and paste it into the box above.
Look up the video
Tap the button and wait a moment while the title, length and available qualities appear below the box.
Pick a quality and save it
Choose an MP4 resolution or an MP3 bitrate. The file opens in a new tab; if it plays instead of downloading, save it from the browser menu or with right-click and Save video as.
A Free YouTube Downloader With Nothing to Set Up
This youtube downloader is free to use from the first link you paste. There is no trial period, no premium tier hiding the better qualities, and no point where you are asked for a card number. Every option in the list, from 144p video to 320 kbps MP3, is open to everyone.
You also never need an account. You won't be asked for an email address, a password or a phone number, so there is nothing to remember and nothing tied to your name. The page works the moment it loads.
Just as important, there is nothing to install. No app, no browser extension, no desktop program. Everything happens in the browser you already have, whether that's Chrome on an Android phone, Safari on an iPad or Firefox on a Linux laptop. When you close the tab, nothing of ours stays behind on your device.
A Step-by-Step Walkthrough on Phone and Computer
Here is what you'll see at each stage, so nothing on the screen comes as a surprise.
On a phone: copy the link
Open the video in the YouTube app, tap Share under the player, then tap Copy link. The same works for Shorts, where Share sits on the right side of the screen. In a mobile browser, you can copy the address from the top bar instead.
On a phone: paste and look it up
Come back to this page, press and hold inside the link box, choose Paste, and tap the button. After a short moment the video's title and length appear, so you can confirm it's the right one before going further.
On a phone: choose and save
Below the title you'll see the MP4 qualities, each with its file size, and the MP3 bitrates. Tap one and the file opens in a new tab. If it starts playing, use the browser menu (the three dots, then Download) or long-press the video and choose Download or Save.
On a computer: copy the link
With the video open in your browser, click the address bar and copy the full link, or right-click the video and choose Copy video URL. Short youtu.be links and YouTube Music links work just as well.
On a computer: paste and pick a format
Paste the link into the box at the top of this page with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V and click the button. The screen then shows the title, the length and the full list of formats, with sizes next to the video options so you can judge how much space each one takes.
On a computer: save the file
Clicking a quality opens it in a new tab. Some browsers download it straight away; others play it first. If it plays, right-click the video and choose Save video as, then pick a folder.
Which Quality Suits Which Use
All qualities are shown side by side; this table simply explains where each one fits.
| Quality | Resolution | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 144p | 256 x 144 | Very small files, weak connections |
| 240p | 426 x 240 | Talks and lectures on low storage |
| 360p | 640 x 360 | Small phone screens, saving data |
| 480p | 854 x 480 | Phones and tablets, modest size |
| 720p (HD) | 1280 x 720 | Sharp viewing on most screens |
| 1080p (Full HD) | 1920 x 1080 | Laptops, monitors and TVs |
| MP3 | Audio only, 64 to 320 kbps | Music, podcasts, listening offline |
Every MP4 option includes sound. The top video quality is 1080p; nothing higher is offered.
Staying Safe While You Download
Take links from YouTube itself
Copy the link from the official YouTube app or website. A link passed along in a message or forum may point somewhere else entirely, so it's worth getting it from the source.
Watch out for fake download buttons
On many websites, large flashing Download buttons are actually ads that lead to other pages or ask you to install something. Here, the only things that start a download are the quality options shown after your video is looked up.
You don't need an extension
If any page tells you an extension, plugin or codec pack is required to save a YouTube video, you can safely decline. This tool runs entirely in a normal browser tab.
Use a full browser, not an in-app one
If you opened this page from inside Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, downloads may be blocked. Open it in Chrome or Safari instead, where saving files works as expected.
Where Your Downloads Are Saved
The file goes wherever your browser normally puts downloads.
Android
Files usually land in the Downloads folder, which you can open from the Files app or from Downloads in Chrome's menu. Videos may also show up in your gallery app.
iPhone and iPad
Safari saves to the Downloads folder in the Files app. From there, you can share a video to Photos with Save Video if you'd like it in your camera roll.
Computer
On Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, files go to the Downloads folder unless you've set another location. Your browser's download list shows exactly where each file went.
YouTube Downloader Questions and Answers
Can I save YouTube Shorts with this youtube downloader?
Yes. Copy the Short's link from the Share button and paste it in just like a regular video. Mobile links, youtu.be links and YouTube Music links are recognized too.
How do I decide which video quality to pick?
Think about where you'll watch it. For a phone, 480p or 720p looks clear without taking much space, while 1080p is worth it for a laptop or TV. The file size next to each option helps you compare before you tap.
Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?
Higher bitrates keep more detail and make larger files. 320 or 256 kbps suits music you care about, 192 or 128 kbps is plenty for everyday listening, and 64 kbps works well for spoken content like talks and podcasts.
Does it handle long videos?
Yes. There is no length or size limit, so full lectures, concerts and long podcasts can be saved. Longer videos simply produce larger files, so check your free storage first.
Why won't a particular video work?
Private, age-restricted, members-only, removed or region-blocked videos may not be available. Live streams that are still running can't be saved either; try again once the stream has ended and been published as a regular video.
What happens if I paste a playlist link?
Only the single video included in that link is looked up and offered for download. To save other videos from the playlist, paste their links one at a time.
Is my activity stored anywhere?
No. Video details and download links are fetched live for each visit and never saved, and the site keeps no download history. Anonymous visit statistics are collected with Google Analytics and cookies, and Cloudflare handles hosting and security.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
That depends on the video. Only save content you own, that is in the public domain or under a licence that allows it, or that you have permission to keep, and use it personally. This site is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.
On my iPhone the video just plays. What do I do?
That's normal in Safari. Tap the share icon or long-press the video and choose Download or Save, then look for the file in the Files app under Downloads.
Does it work on Linux and Chromebook?
Yes. Any modern browser is enough, so Chrome, Firefox, Edge and others all work. Nothing needs to be installed on the operating system.
