How to convert YouTube to MP3 in three steps

The whole process takes place in your browser, with no account or extension involved.

  1. Paste the link

Copy the address of the YouTube video and paste it into the box at the top of this page, then tap the button.

  2. Pick a bitrate

Confirm the title and length, then tap one of the MP3 options from 320 down to 64 kbps.

  3. Save the file

When the audio opens in a new tab, use your browser's download option or the three-dot menu to keep it on your device.

How the YouTube to MP3 option works

Sometimes you only need the sound: a lecture to replay on a walk, a podcast episode for a flight, or a practice track you have permission to keep. This YouTube downloader is set to MP3 first on this page, so the audio choices are the first thing you see after pasting a link. Regular watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, mobile links and YouTube Music links are all accepted.

Once you tap the button, the tool looks up the video live and shows its title and length, followed by five MP3 bitrates: 320, 256, 192, 128 and 64 kbps. Take a moment to check the title and length match what you expected. Then tap the bitrate you want, and the file opens in a new browser tab.

On a phone, the browser may simply start playing the audio. That is normal. Open the browser menu (the three dots, then Download) or long-press and choose Download or Save. On a computer, the file either downloads right away or plays in the tab, in which case right-click and use the save option. Long recordings are fine, and nothing about your request is kept once you leave the page.

Choosing an MP3 bitrate

A higher bitrate keeps more detail but makes a larger file, so match the choice to how you will listen.

BitrateFile sizeSuits
320 kbpsLargeMusic on good headphones or speakers
256 kbpsMedium to largeMusic with a little space saved
192 kbpsMediumEveryday music listening on the go
128 kbpsSmall to mediumPodcasts, interviews, casual music
64 kbpsSmallSpeech, lectures, audiobooks, low storage

A higher bitrate cannot add detail the original upload never had, so a quiet phone recording sounds the same at 128 and 320 kbps.

A short checklist before you save

  • Make sure you may keep it

Save audio you own, that is in the public domain, that is shared under a licence allowing it, or that you have permission to download, and keep it for personal use.

  • Check the video is available

Private, age-restricted, members-only, removed or region-blocked videos may not work, and streams that are still live cannot be saved until they end.

  • Copy the exact video link

If you copy a link from inside a playlist, only that one video is saved, not the whole list.

  • Use a regular browser

Browsers built into apps like Instagram, Facebook or TikTok may block downloads, so open the page in Chrome or Safari instead.

  • Think about storage

Hour-long talks add up quickly at high bitrates, so a lower setting can be the more practical choice for spoken content.

YouTube to MP3 questions

Will 320 kbps make a poor recording sound better?

No. The MP3 can only carry what is in the original upload. If the video was recorded on a weak microphone, a lower bitrate such as 128 kbps will sound practically identical and take up less space.

Can I use a YouTube Music link?

Yes, YouTube Music links work the same way as regular video links. Paste the link for the single track, choose a bitrate and save it, keeping in mind that most commercial music is protected by copyright.

Why does the audio play instead of downloading?

Many browsers, especially on phones, play audio files the moment they open. Use the browser menu and choose Download, or long-press and pick Download or Save, and the MP3 will be stored on your device.

Where do saved MP3 files end up on an iPhone?

Files saved through Safari usually go to the Downloads folder in the Files app. From there you can play them directly or share them to another app that handles audio.

Can I get the audio of a whole album or playlist?

Only the single video in the link is saved. To keep several tracks, paste each video link separately and save them one at a time.

Does this YouTube downloader work for long podcasts?

Yes, there is no length limit, so multi-hour episodes and lectures can be saved. A broadcast that is still live will not work, but you can try again after the stream has finished.

Paste a link above, choose the bitrate that fits how you listen, and keep the sound for personal use in a few calm steps.
